The Engineering Project Manager is a very hands-on technical management position with high visibility and large levels of responsibility
The PM is responsible for performing end-to-end cross-discipline leadership throughout the software development lifecycle. Accountable for on-time, on-budget, high quality software project deliveries, the PM manages the entire project, including Analysis, Development and Quality Assurance. The PM also oversees dependencies and handoffs between Engineering, Product Management and Operations The projects that the PM manages are large scale with significant tactical or strategic impacts for the client
Specific Responsibilities: - Leverage project team resources to provide level of effort estimates - Identify, mitigate, and prioritize, manage and resolve project issues, constraints, dependencies and risks - Create and manage overall project plan - Define and manage to critical success factors - Develop and monitor project budget versus actual expenses - Institute a change control process and chair the Change Control Board - Communicate status and issues to senior management and project stakeholders - Coordinate cross-org team, proactively ensuring that teams are in sync in terms of communication, schedules, issues, etc
- Facilitate decision making with stakeholders, balancing the needs of different constituencies and facilitating consensus
- Champion and key contributor of continuous improvement of PM best practices, using innovative ideas to increase effectiveness of organization
- Managing mostly high projects in terms of complexity, risk, and/or business criticality while managing multiple projects at a given time, juggling activities and priorities accordingly
Experience - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline - At least ten years of progressively responsible experience on large scale software development projects, preferably in a commercial software development environment - At least three years of experience directly managing software projects of significant scale and complexity including multiple sub-teams, financial project management, and cross-divisional staff involvement - At least two years of experience with highly available back-end transaction intensive OLTP type systems and API interfaces - Basic understanding of J2EE technologies and distributed architectures Other Key Requirements of the Successful Candidate: - The PM position is very hands on - this is NOT an administrative project management position - Client is a fast-paced technology rich environment; the ability to multitask on different projects concurrently and react deftly to movements in the business is critical - The PM also serves as leader for the team; a strong positive attitude and the ability to motivate both junior and senior team members is important Additional Notes: MUST be hands on technical managers, i
