Introduction The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Computer Engineer. Responsibilities Perform end-to-end software engineering and algorithm development for signal locating technologies and systems in support of the DoD and Intelligence Communities. Work as a member of a multi-discriplined team to develop systems, algorithms, and software to support signal location and exploitation systems and technologies Primary focus is on software system design, numerical simulation, implementation, and evaluation in fieldable signal location and exploitation system prototypes
Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of novel concepts for real-time data acquisition, tracking, and signal processing algorithms in support of weak signal locating and exploitation technologies & systems
Work closely with signal processing and communications engineers to develop Microsoft Windows engineering application and graphical user-interface software for advanced RF exploitation and communication applications
Refine and integrate prototype code with government and commercial Microsoft Windows applications
Participate in field evaluations of devices
Rapidly modify/update software in the field according to test results and in response to emergent technical and operational requirements
Develop and document formal and informal software requirements and specifications as needed to support development and testing
Qualifications Required: MS in electrical engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of experience
Experience with Microsoft
Net framework C, C++, and C#
Experience in developing Windows, Linux, and embedded software especially in the area of real-time data acquisition and signal processing
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in small multi-organizational teams
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness to work on quick-reaction projects in support of the sponsor's requirements
Fundamental understanding of RF communications technologies and devices
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information
Eligibility requirements include US citizenship
Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination
Preference for current SSBI
Desired: Experience designing and evaluating RF signal location and/or navigation systems, particularly for the DoD and Intelligence Community
Working knowledge of VHDL and digital design
Familiarity with Matlab, experience migrating Matlab code to stand-alone applications
Strong analytical background and excellent grasp of signal locating and electronic navigation techniques
